Day 2: Bob’s Burgers

16.7 miles. First second day! First in town meal! First siesta hangout and first swimming hole dunk. I slept surprisingly well and was feeling good waking up at the ass crack of dawn (aka before 6 am). We hiked a little more to get to lake morena and we’re rewarded with the good breakfast food we had heard so much rave about. The burrito was maybe one of the best of my entire life with super crispy potatoes and I splurged on specialty japanese kitkats. We met many more hikers and headed off to the next campsite for a siesta. It was getting hot by mid day so getting to a large tree shaded area was the perfect oasis for us and a multitude of burnt to a crisp hikers. It was really cool to finally experience what I’m sure will be the first of many trail hang outs. It felt like I was starting to get the sense of the true trail community where people are constantly flowing in and out and enjoying the same spots of reprieve were all aiming for. We rested and played a game of wizard which is very similar to Spades (Matt will be ecstatic). We headed out around 4 to get to an oasis spring and then a little further for our campsite. We started hiking with 3 German guys (Yonas, Ricardo, and Timo) but lost them after 2 miles because they were very speedy. We were getting very tired by the spring but the cold water was wonderful to bath in and then enjoy a hot meal. It was a real.struggle to push on the last 2 miles to the campsite and the sun was setting really fast. The sky and trail were gorgeous but I was just played tired. I finally put on some tunes a half mile out and started getting my boogy on which brought my energy levels up and out me in a great mood to make it to camp and set up shop for the night.
