20.3 miles. Becoming a thru hiker. We woke up at the crack of dawn and started getting ready for a heavy push in the morning. I decided to wash my clothes while we had a ton of access to water and it was nasty agua. My group left while I was wringing out the clothes so I had to hike hard to catch up and never quite made it. Damn did this group hike FAST. I wasn’t pushing myself too hard but I was trying to hike fast and could never get any closer to them. Today’s terrain continued the tradition of weaving back and forth along the ridge line while gradually making our way higher up. It was fun to see the next ridge line that I’d be making it to every time I rounded a corner but unfortunately that same corner would be gushing wind pushing me into the mountain. Honestly, the hiking felt a little tedious but it was incredible how much progress we made in such short time. I would time my distance between myself and the group as I saw them on a far away ridge line and when I couldn’t see them in a very wide ridge I figured we had to have made our first stop. We had done 7.5 miles in under 2.5 hours. Today I started to feel the hiker hunger hard. I would eat the regular amount and then down multiple tortillas every stop for calories. We were able to make it to the water stop pretty early and had a very long siesta. Alan, who I met the day before, walked up and joined and we ended up giving him the trail name Prophet because he wanted to read us a verse from the Bible. We chilled in the shade for a little over 3 hours and headed off to do the final 7 miles which ended up going by really fast. We did another nightly ritual stretch, scarfed down some food, and had some good conversation as the sun set and the cold set in.
