Day 15: Rollercoaster

19.3 miles. Started slow in the morning with all of the elevation gain and had to carry 4 liters of water to get to the water source at the end of the day. I decided I officially hate refilling water as I feel like I’m really slow at it and it drains a lot of my energy. I was feeling fine physically but not very energetic as the morning rolled on. Also, my right hip was feeling very off so I felt like my gait was a little funky. Eventually Cary caught up to me and we hiked for a while which was a great change of pace and helped me push on to my first stopping point. I stopped for first lunch and rolled out my hip on the first good boulder I saw. After that, I felt much better and was able to keep rolling through the early afternoon. The day had lots of elevation gain and then descent so I felt like it was a lot of work that we kept losing, thus the day was named rollercoaster. I saw Glowstick and Payless having lunch on my last incline before second lunch and Cary passed by again. She joined me for a few miles and the Convo again really helped make the time go by faster and more pleasant. We stopped right before the infamous “private zoo” that was supposed to have the only grizzlies wed see on the whole trip. After stopping for food, Glowstick caught up to us and we decided to keep hiking around 2 to check out the zoo and find a siesta spot. The zoo ended up being a dud and only had a bunch of barking dogs. On top of that, it was still super hot so we decided to siesta about 0.2 miles from where we just were. After 20 minutes, Glowstick decided to keep going and I promptly fell asleep for 2 hours. I can get used to these mid day naps. I finished the hiking day with 6 more miles of easy downhill that felt easy peasy lemon squeezy. When I arrived to the campsite, the entire crew from Cabazon was there with Glowstick. After dinner, I led everyone in a yoga session (Swell would be so proud of me) and we played elimination spoons with our vast collection of titanium sporks. Surprisingly, no one had the same two sporks.
