Day 18: Nike Pro Stride

23.8 miles. We woke up at 5 to pack and clean up. Pitch drove us to the trailhead and we started walking with our extremely heavy packs. Our bodies felt rested and pretty good but the morning went slowly as I constantly felt the weight of the pack on my shoulders. As we passed first lunch, I started feeling more energetic and moving faster. Eventually it was 11 and we had already done 12 miles. I wanted to get as close to the campsite by 2 for a midday siesta so I pushed hard to get up to 16 or 17 miles. Unfortunately at 1:40, I felt so tired and my feet were starting to bother me so I caved for the first decent site I saw for a lunch. It was a shitty spot right on the trail ridge like with my back against some pointy rocks. Swell walked up right as I finished my 40 minute lunch break and told me she had stopped herself less than 5 minutes back. We searched for another spot and found a piece of flat ground in less 5 minutes…. You always find a better rest spot 0.1 miles up the trail. I proceeded to pass out as everyone walked on by. I convinced Swell to let me sleep until 4 and we did our push ups and walked on. We were cheery and the afternoon felt easy with lots of conversation. We passed the 3 girls we had met at the underpass, JJ Bean, Seahorse, and Seaweed at the water source and kept going our final 3 miles to the campsite only to find a great site with lots of sitting rocks but no Flo. I quickly seized my prize of the day and ate my slutty brownie very very happily (there is photo evidence of my deep satisfaction). There were mosquitos all over that distracted me during our rushed yoga session, so we decided to set up the tent for a piece of mind and a nice sleep. So long for Swell’s 17 day cowboy camping streak.
