Day 27: KBBQ

4.2 miles. I woke up to everyone convinced to skip the next section which we still thought was likely to be closed. We were just going to relax through the afternoon and then head out so we had plenty of time to chill. My quad wasn’t feeling good which made me nervous that I had a pinched a nerve and should take it a little more easy. We heard from Glowstick that they had walked through the section and saw no sign of it being officially closed. Swell and Kilmonger decided to hike on but I felt like I mentally needed a break to get to Hikertown and the tough days after it, so Danger Noodle and I decided to skip it. McMansion officially became a yellow blazer! Woops. Danger Noodles friend was coming to pick us up around 1 and when she got there we decided to just hang out longer so we didn’t have to start hiking in the heat. She also revealed that she also came bearing a KBBQ grill and bulgogi!! Studying zoology, she flipped out over all of our reptile photos and stories and said the scientific name of every one we showed her. After dropping Swell and Josh at the trail, we drove on to skip 22 miles of the trail and got the siesta spot with plenty of hikers to feed. Glowstick and Payless were there as well as plenty of new hiker friends. Helen made incredible KBBQ and I was a very happy boy. I hiked with Glowstick and Payless another 4 miles and got to a very buggy campsite. My 24 hours in the comforts of the real world already made it hard to deal with the displeasure of annoying conditions but I was ready to be back on the trail and push on.
