22.6 miles. We started the day by going over Glen Pass to get to Rae Lakes. It was pretty short and not very much elevation but for some reason it felt incredibly hard for me, possibly even harder than Whitney. I didn’t have much water left and started the morning really dehydrated until I got to the first water source and took an embarrassing poop having to hide behind a rock as I saw a little kid snooping through trees nearby and being so close to spotting me. After we took a snack break, prairie and Brightside wanted to go cliff jumping at a massive cliff they saw at the first lake. I kept heading on and then found a spot that had a beautiful view of the lake and tons of little fish all over that I wanted to catch with the boys. While waiting for them I soaked my feet a ton and did some yoga with a beautiful view on a really soft patch of grass. I was waiting forever and walking back and forth to try to find them. I was confused because it seemed that there was no other way to go besides go around the lake which looked like major bushwhacking. After hanging out for over an hour I had to move on. The next few lakes were beautiful but I had to keep going after chilling for so long. The valley down was beautiful but for some reason I was in a really bad mood and wasn’t enjoying hiking very much. I stopped at another spot on a river for 30 minutes to try to see if they’d catch up and we could fish together before giving up on them. After this I was so far back in my mileage for the day and had a lot left to do. I pushed on and enjoyed the waterslide-esque river at the start of the climb. I was able to cheer up a bit by listening to Passion Pit. At the top of the pass I celebrated a great climb and spotted a note from Boogie that we should meet her at the campsite we talked about. The alpine lakes on the descent were gorgeous. After listening to Frank ocean, I realized I could make a parody to Nights about Grogu. I planned to write it that night but ended up doing it for 30 minutes while I was hiking and had so much fun making it and singing along. I couldn’t wait to surprise boogie with it. A little before 9, it became extremely dark as I passed from open air into a forest and noticed a sign that said “Missing Person”. I obviously was too stupid and scared to both read it further or take out my headlamp so I was freaked out and hiked as fast as I could using my phone light the remaining mile and a half. I finally saw some red lights in the distance that I was sure was them and they were sure it was me from my unconventional light source. Boogie had met a triple crowner named Professor that she had hiked with that day and camped with us. We had a nice dinner and I performed Nights with Grogu for them before we went to bed. Our plan was to wake up early and hike Mather Pass before the majority of the storm hit and hike the rest of the day in the 20 mile valley. Boogie planned to hike with Professor a little earlier and wait for us at the forest line.
